Books on the Western Mystery Tradition

The Book of Formation, or Sepher Yetzirah
Attributed to Rabbi Akiba ben Joseph. Translated by Knut Stenring. Introduced and edited by A. E. Waite. Foreword by R. A. Gilbert. This ancient Hebrew text lays out the principles of Kabalistic cosmology and sets forth the Hebrew doctrine of Logos—the creation of the world in numbers, letters, and sound. In this little-known translation, first published in 1923, Stenring reveals the text’s secrets in his diagrams, tables, and extensive notes. His translation is the only one to include a foldout of the “Master Key to the Theoretical and Practical Kabala,” in which he claims to have decoded the Arcanum of the Great Symbol hidden in the Sepher Yetzirah. 96 pp. • 6 x 9 • ISBN: 0-89254-094-X • Paper, $14.95

Dionysius the Areopagite on
the Divine Names and the Mystical Theology

Translated by C. E. Rolt. Preface by Alan Armstrong. The Divine Names and The Mystical Theology were written by a theologian who professed to be St. Paul’s Athenian convert, Dionysius. Rolt, however, places him in the time of Proclus, in the 5th century A.D. These works of Neo-Platonic Christian mysticism had an important influence on the early church and other Western esoteric orders and continue to be essential in the serious study of theology. 240 pp. • 5 ½ x 8 ½ • ISBN: 0-89254-095-8 • Paper, $16.95

The Eleusinian Mysteries and Rites
Dudley Wright.
Introduction by the Rev. J. Fort Newton. The Eleusinian rites emerged from the Greek myth of the goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone to bring forth abundance from the earth. Yet strikingly similar rituals and legends appear in the doctrines of Freemasonry, Buddhism, the early Church, and other religions and spiritual traditions. Dudley Wright explains the core mythology of Demeter and the many stories born of her myth. He includes an examination of the Ritual of the Mysteries, when and how they are carried out, the rites of initiation and their mystical significance. Index. 2003. 112 pp. • 4-1/2” x 7-1/2” • ISBN 0-89254-070-2 • Paper, $16.95

The House of the Hidden Places
and The Book of the Master

W. Marsham Adams. Foreword by R. A. Gilbert. Combines two classics on Ancient Egypt into one volume. In The House of the Hidden Places, first published in 1895, Adams clearly lays out evidence that the Great Pyramid at Giza corresponds architecturally to the initiation ritual detailed in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. The Book of the Master, first published in 1898, is an in-depth exploration of the religious beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians. Of value to students of Freemasonry and ceremonial magic. 512 pp. • Illustrations and one foldout • 5 ½ x 8 ½ • ISBN: 0-89254-092-3 • Paper, $24.95

John Dee
Charlotte Fell Smith. Introduction by R. A. Gilbert. Smythe sewn and printed on acid-free paper, with gold foil stamping on a cloth-covered case binding, this edition is sure to become a collector’s item. 368 pp. • 8 plates • 6 x 9 • ISBN: 0-89254-104-0 • Hardcover with jacket, $55.00

The Magical Ritual of Sanctum Regnum
Éliphas Lévi. Preface by R.A. Gilbert. Éliphas Lévi (1810–1875) set out this tarot theory in his book Transcendental Magic, but never revealed its magical application. This was finally made public in 1896 when Dr. Westcott—creator of the Golden Dawn—translated and printed Lévi’s secret manuscript. It is this rare text that we have re-issued. Gilbert’s Introduction details the history of the manuscript as it passed from Baron Spedalieri—Lévi’s friend, disciple, and literary heir—to Anna Kingsford and Edward Mailand and finally to William Westcott. 8 illustrations. 144 pp. • 5 ½ x 8 ½ • ISBN: 0-89254-106-7 • Paper, $16.95

Prayer
Dudley Wright. Introduction by Allan Armstrong. This is an inspiring book that can re-engage people of all faiths in the power of prayer. Wright says “the object of prayer is not to change [natural law] . . . but to alter the conscious or unconscious rebellion of the individual against such law or departure from it.” Armstrong’s Introduction sheds light on the direction in which society has gone with faith and prayer since Wright’s book first published in 1912. Armstrong provides additional history and examples of prayer, tracing its practice from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, to the present. 144 pp. • 5 ½ x 8 ½ • ISBN: 0-89254-108-3 • Paper, $12.95

Theurgy, or the Hermetic Practice
A Treatise on Spiritual Alchemy

E. J. Langford Garstin. Foreword by Edward Dunning. The literal meaning of “theurgy” is “God working.” The theurgist strives for heightened spirituality through the aid of beneficial spirits. Garstin, however, applies the concept of theurgy to “the Great Work”—alchemy. who are curious about alchemy but daunted by the body of its literature and its strange allegories will find this book to be an excellent introduction, because Garstin discusses source alchemical works and clearly explains what their esoteric symbolism means. 160 pp. • 5 ½ x 8 ½ • ISBN: 0-89254-091-5 • Paper, $12.95
