About
Nicolas-Hays, Inc./Ibis Press
For over 25 years, Nicolas-Hays has been publishing unusual, leading-edge authors who are writing books that change lives. We are a small, independent publishing house and because we believe in the importance of community, we encourage readers to support their local bookstores. Each season we publish between two and four new works from manuscript and in our Ibis Press imprint we publish between 6 and 10 reprints of esoteric classics. Our titles are available through independent as well as chain bookstores (be sure to ask staff if you don't see a book you're looking for). Nicolas-Hays publishes books that put Jungian philosophy and psychology to use, for we believe that Jung re-opened doors to the mind—doors that closed hundreds of years ago, when science and spirituality separated. We like Eastern philosophy and publish old or new works and voices that must be heard. We love the goddess in her many guises and also publish books that enhance creativity. We hope that our books assist as many people as possible on their personal journey.

Manuscript Submissions: If you have a manuscript that you think will fit in our publishing program, please send us a proposal letter describing your work and your qualifications for writing the work. In the proposal, please include a table of contents with a two-line description of each chapter. Be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you wish to receive a response from us. We must see a print out of your proposal or manuscript. Please do not send manuscripts via e-mail, and do not send us your manuscript on disk. E-mail attachments will be deleted and disks will be returned to you unread. We are a small publishing house and we have to answer mail in the order in which it comes to us. We are currently dealing with a high volume of submissions, so please allow 8 weeks to receive an answer.

Some Tips on Manuscript Format
Keep your manuscript simple: 12-point, commonly-used type that everyone can see (keep in mind that people in publishing read a lot and prefer not to squint at lots of italic or fancy type); double-spaced, with 1-inch margins all around the text. Print it on one side of the paper. Use a first-line indent to indicate paragraphs, do not add extra lines of space for paragraphs. Keep subheads simple, with a line break before and after---do not use special type for them. ALWAYS INCLUDE PAGE NUMBERS ON YOUR MANUSCRIPT! DO NOT USE AUTOMATIC TABLE OF CONTENTS UTILITIES, INDEXING UTILITIES, OR HOT-LINKED REFERENCES FOR FIGURE NUMBERS OR ANY HOTLINKS AT ALL IN YOUR ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT! Many publishers edit manuscripts electronically, and these so-called time-savers cause a lot of trouble when elements in a manuscript need to be moved.
The best advice we can give you is to get yourself a copy of The Chicago Manual of Style, which provides a wealth of information on compiling a manuscript and the entire book-making process.
