As all cat lovers know, it is actually the human who is adopted, not the cat,
and the cat often becomes our master (in all senses of the word)!
Naina was adopted by a black-and-white stray cat called Sweetie, who
chose to give birth to kittens—Bhakti and Samah—in Naina's rooms at the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram in India.
Along with bringing Naina great delight and wonder, the experience of fostering
this semi-wild cat family called into examination her beliefs about Mother
Nature and how we live within Her laws. The cats came with their own dharma,
or purpose, and it was a constant balancing act to
care for Sweetie and her kittens without interfering with their dharma. Naina asks, "Could their living presence demonstrate the spot where mind superimposes itself on nature's laws?" Through her observations, her worries, and delights, we learn many lessons about being in the universe, in tune with the Goddess, as we watch the cosmic dance played out in the microcosm of the cat
world. |
|
Naina's devotion to Sweetie and her kittens inspires us to pay more attention
to the wonders and teachings all around us. Her charming story affirms that caring for animals teaches us love and compassion, and encourages us to open our hearts to a higher consciousness. This is how we all proceed upward beyond the biological evolutionary cycle into genuine spiritual evolution. A divine partnership is established to help us ascend the ladder of creation until we each embrace our God nature. We evolve both on the psychical level of the body and the psychological level of the psyche—from animal to human to divine. Then we discover our true home, which exists always, and we break the bonds of evolution. |

The book includes Naina's pictures of Sweetie and the kittens in full color. For
readers who want to learn about Hinduism, there are footnotes and a glossary
that explain its principles and terms.
